What is Arthritis?

There are a few different kinds of arthritis. Osteoarthritis is the most common one that can hit at around age forty. The condition is characterized by the degeneration of the joint cartilage that lines all the joints. Mostly affected are the weight bearing areas such as joints, the hips, knees and spine. Also commonly affected are finger joints in the hands and the base of the thumb.

Glucosamine Sulphate

Many natural agents help to reverse the condition or may offer relief from osteoarthritis. One of the most widely researched natural remedies is glucosamine sulphate. This compound is an essential building block in the manufacturing of cartilage tissue. Glucosamine according to several studies, is effective in the treatment of osteoarthritis. It has also been shown to control the symptoms of osteoarthritis better as compared to the commonly used arthritis pain killer ibuprofen.

The dosage required for glucosamine is about 500 mg 3 times daily. Soon after the therapeutic benefits are achieved, it can be possible to go down to once or twice a day.

Chondroitin Sulphate

Chondroitin sulphate and glucosamine sulphate are often used together for treatments of natural arthritic pain. The compound works by attracting fluid into the joint cartilage tissue. This can bring the necessary nutrients to the joint area and improve the deteriorating condition of the cartilage also. It's been proven that chondroitin sulphate is better than most pharmaceutical drug pain killers for controlling the painful symptoms of osteoarthritis, and without the side effects as well.

Chondroitin sulfate dosage is 400mg, 3 times a day. Like glucosamine, the dosage can diminish after some pain has subsided. Chondroitin and glucosamine are commonly combined in joint health supplements.

These two substances are also found in green lipped mussels. Even when all the components from green lipped mussel are extracted, glucosamine and chondroitin remain intact. Green lipped mussels remains one of the best cures known for arthritic pain.

The Green-Lipped Mussels and Arthritic Pain

Green lipped mussels also contain something very special called Eicosatetraenoic acid (ETA), which has an anti-inflammatory effect that's more potent than prescription drugs … but without the side effects.

It has been clinically proven that treatment with green mussel extract supplements of 1000 mg taken on a daily basis for 3 months caused significant improvements in the symptoms of arthritis. Glucosamine, chondroitin, with green lipped mussel for arthritis as a single supplement is available from most health food stores and pharmacies.
